The increase in CO2 prices at the turn of the year and more expensive crude oil are having an impact on fuel prices. They are rising to their highest level in months.
Fuel prices in Germany have risen significantly within a week. Premium petrol of the E10 variety cost a nationwide daily average of 1.731 euros per liter on Tuesday, as the ADAC reports. That was 3.5 cents more than a week earlier. Diesel prices rose by 3.3 cents to 1.663 euros per liter. This means that fuel prices are continuing their upward trend of the last few weeks. Just four weeks ago, refueling was almost 8 cents per liter cheaper. Price levels similar to those at present were last reached in the summer of last year.
The current price jump on a weekly basis is primarily due to the CO2 price increase at the turn of the year, which was not yet in effect on the comparison day of the previous week, December 31st. It amounts to around 3 cents per liter. In addition, according to ADAC, crude oil prices have increased compared to the previous week.
