At the WEF conference in Davos, high-ranking guests from politics and business always give each other a hand. The army also moves in to protect them.

Several thousand soldiers arrived in Davos a week before the start of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). They are intended to help protect the infrastructure and the high-profile visitors to the meeting, according to the army. Among other things, armed fighter jets are constantly on patrol.

The meeting will take place from January 20th to 24th. As every year, around 2,500 participants from business, politics, civil society, science and culture are expected in the mountain village in the canton of Graubünden. The WEF Foundation wants to announce this week which government leaders or ministers will be there. The event’s theme is “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age”.

Parliament has approved up to 5,000 army personnel to support the WEF. Among other things, they are intended to transport high-profile visitors, strengthen airspace surveillance and protect infrastructure such as power lines. Restrictions apply in the airspace above the town.
