Lindt & Sprüngli: Chocolate is becoming more expensive

It’s because of the ingredients: The price of cocoa reached an all-time high a few weeks ago – the Swiss manufacturer is passing the higher costs on to consumers.
High cocoa prices make chocolate more expensive. The Swiss manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli already increased prices last year and has announced the same for 2025. At the end of last year, the price of cocoa reached an all-time high, said the company in Kilchberg near Zurich.
Lindt & Sprüngli produces, among other things, the iconic Easter bunnies in gold packaging and the Lindor balls. The hand-made “Lindt Dubai Chocolate” was also very successful at the end of 2024. Chocolate for wholesalers is now being created using a similar recipe.
Although consumer sentiment was subdued, volumes and sales could have been increased, the company said. The increase in sales was 5.1 percent to 5.47 billion francs (5.8 billion euros). The company will announce the profit in March. In many European countries there were double-digit growth rates, in Germany “in the mid-single-digit range”.
The chocolate manufacturer Ritter Sport also increased its prices by around 30 percent in the fall. Varieties such as Alpine milk and strawberry yoghurt have since cost 1.89 euros, while the nut and cocoa bars cost 2.19 euros. This was due to the increased raw material prices for cocoa due to poor harvests and the consequences of climate change. When asked recently, Milka manufacturer Mondelez did not want to comment on whether a price increase was planned.
