The Green Week in Berlin is the scene of protests every year. Agriculture Minister Özdemir also hears something.
On the sidelines of the Green Week in Berlin, activists called on Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) and his international counterparts to put farmers before the interests of corporations. “All people who live and work in rural areas must be included in the political shaping of our food systems,” says a protest note that an alliance of several organizations presented to Özdemir that morning. Too often, farmers around the world are faced with a political fait accompli. An international conference of agricultural ministers is taking place in Berlin today.
Traditional demo “We’re fed up”
Thousands of people also want to demonstrate in the government district in Berlin-Mitte for a socio-ecological change in agricultural policy. The alliance “We are fed up” called for this. According to the organizers, around 60 organizations from agriculture and civil society are taking part. 10,000 participants are registered. Green Week opened on Thursday. It is considered one of the largest trade fairs for food and agriculture in the world.
