Trump announcement causes Dax to rise above 21,000 points for the first time

The German stock index Dax has broken the record mark of 21,000 points. The reason was a media report about the new US President Donald Trump.

Shortly before Donald Trump took office as US President, the Dax rose above the 21,000 mark for the first time on Monday. At its peak, it rose by around half a percent to 21,016 points.

The price gains were triggered by a report in the Wall Street Journal, according to which the administration of the new US president does not want to introduce new tariffs on imports on the day of his inauguration. Rather, he wants to instruct the authorities to evaluate trade relations with China and America’s continental neighbors. The Eurozone leading index EuroStoxx 50 rose by 0.3 percent on Monday to another high since 2000.

Biden welcomes Trump to the White House: “Welcome Home”

The prospect of interest rates continuing to fall in the USA and the Eurozone has been creating a buying mood for months. It was only at the beginning of December that the DAX broke the 20,000 mark, and in September the 19,000 mark fell. In 2024, the DAX increased by around 19 percent, and since the turn of the year it has increased by another five percent.

Whether the record hunt will continue at this pace remains uncertain. The presidency of Donald Trump is causing uncertainty in the financial markets, as his tariff plans could cause further distress to the economy in the euro zone. But the Middle East conflict or the war between Russia and Ukraine could also cause problems for the stock market.
