The Hamburg shoe retailer Görtz has gone bankrupt for the second time in a short period of time. The traditional company was only saved around a year and a half ago.
The Hamburg shoe retailer Görtz has slipped into bankruptcy again.
The Hamburg district court ordered insolvency proceedings for Görtz Retail GmbH on Monday, according to the insolvency notices portal. The lawyer Gideon Böhm from the Hamburg law firm Münzel & Böhm has been appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator. Several media outlets had previously reported.
Second financial difficulties within a short period of time
This is the company’s second financial crisis in a short period of time. The first insolvency proceedings of Ludwig Görtz GmbH and its two subsidiaries Görtz Retail GmbH and Görtz Logistik GmbH were only ended in July 2023. At that time, investor Bolko Kissling joined the traditional Hamburg company, which was founded in 1875.
“After comprehensive restructuring measures, it is time to work again on a successful future for the traditional company,” Kissling emphasized at the time. It was also said that 650 jobs had been retained in the branches, logistics and the Hamburg headquarters.
In 2022, Görtz still had around 1,800 employees
At the start of the first insolvency proceedings in September 2022, Ludwig Görtz GmbH and its subsidiaries still had around 1,800 employees. At that time, the company operated around 160 branches in Germany and Austria. As a result, the company had to close numerous locations. Often it was about rent arrears. According to media reports, there are now around 30 branches in Germany and Austria.
