the companies that led the export ranking in 2024

In 2024, agro-export companies liquidated just over US$25 million and once again the sector consolidated itself as the largest contributor of foreign currency to the Argentine economy, representing 48% of national exports.. In this context, it is key to understand who are the firms that lead this business and how it is composed in ranking.

According to statistics prepared by the Undersecretary of Agricultural Markets of the Nation, in 2024 Argentina exported 50.7 million tons of unprocessed grains, 29.5 million tons of byproducts and 7.2 million tons of oils.. The key fact is that the three segments showed strong growth of around 56% compared to the previous year, when the drought significantly reduced production.

In this framework, in the grain sector, the constant is that only five companies kept more than 60% of total exports. The multinational of North American capital, Cargill, with just over 7.45 million tons, was first in the ranking with 14.7% of the total, closely followed by another North American company such as ADM, which exported 7.42 million tons. of grains, which represents 14.6% of the national total.

The list is completed the Chinese Cofco with 6.9 million tons (13.68%) in third place, followed by the multinational Dreyfus with 5 million tons (9.9%) and in fifth place the North American Bunge with 4.9 million tons (9.8%).

Only in sixth place does a company with national capital appear in the ranking of grain exports, the Association of Argentine Cooperatives (ACA) with 4.2 million tons (8.3% of the total). On this occasion, the Seventh place was Viterra with 4.1 million tons (8%). This company some time ago began a process of merger with Bunge, another giant in the world of agribusiness. Within this framework, in Argentina it operates with the firm Oleaginosas Moreno.

Another Argentine appears in eighth place, Aceitera General Deheza (AGD), commanded by the Urquía family, with 3.1 million tons (6.3%) and very far away in volume, in ninth place was CHS with 1.3 million tons (2.6%). Finally, tenth place went to the Argentine Molinos Agro, the agricultural division of Molinos Río de la Plata, with 1 million tons of grains (2%). Later, no company managed to exceed one million tons.

In the by-products and oils categories the concentration is still marked. In both, Viterra leads by far. For example, in the by-products segment this multinational kept 24% of the total, which represents more than 7 million tons, meanwhile in the oils sector the firm’s participation was 30% with 2.2 million tons.

More specifically, the multinational achieved this place of relevance precisely after the fall of Vicentin and since 2020 it has been first in the ranking of exports of processed products thanks to its large grinding capacity.

Continuing with the ranking of byproducts, which is very similar to that of oils, second place went to Cargill with 3.8 million tons (13%), third to AGD with 3.7 million tons (12.6), fourth for Bunge with 3.5 million tons (11.8%) and fifth place for Molinos Agro with 3.3 million tons (11.3%).
