The La Fraternidad guild announced that on January 28, a arrest in the service of trains between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to demand a salary increase. Faced with this new measure of force, the Ministry of Human Capital pointed out that the union of Omar Maturano did not accept the proposed agreement. In turn, they urged the “strengthening of social dialogue” and “the improvement of working conditions in all sectors.”
From the Ministry of Transportation, dependent on the Ministry of Human Capital, they pointed out that “the joint agreements have been agreed between the companies Ferrovías SA, Metrovías SA, Operadora Ferroviaria SE and Belgrano Cargas y Logística SA with the unions of Unión Ferroviaria, the Staff Association of the Argentine Railways Directorate (APDFA) and the Argentine Railway Signalers Association” but that “The La Fraternidad Union did not accept the proposed agreement.”
In that sense, they emphasized: “Despite the mandatory conciliation measure issued on December 17, 2024, expiring on January 20, 2025, and after arduous negotiations between the employer sector and union representatives, both parties They were unable to reach an agreement given the union’s rejection of the offers offered by the companies.“.
“As a result of the lack of agreement, the union led by Omar Maturanohas communicated its decision to paralyze train services throughout the national territory, on January 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., harming the movement of thousands of people. Faced with this situation, the Government reaffirms its commitment to strengthening social dialogue and improving working conditions in all sectors,” the statement concludes.
Train strike: the union demand
The La Fraternidad union, which brings together train drivers, declared today a strike for next Tuesday due to salary claims, given the “lack of responses” in the joint negotiations.
The decision was made after a meeting held today at 11, in which the possibility of a train strike was already being evaluated after Monday’s hearing with Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado (FASE) failed. Wage negotiations did not progress and representatives of the railway companies did not present any counteroffers, according to railway workers.
With the completion of the mandatory conciliation ordered by the Ministry of Labor, the union led by Omar Maturano was free of action to promote forceful measures.
The proposals for increases, 1% in November and of 2.5% in Decemberwere rated as insufficient to meet the demands of workers in the railway sector.
