Samsung surprises with a thinner smartphone model
According to media reports, Apple is expected to release a thinner smartphone this year – the iPhone Air. Arch-rival Samsung is now making a similar advance announcement.
Smartphone market leader Samsung surprised with a thinner model when introducing the new generation of its top Galaxy S series. However, the Galaxy S25 Edge was initially only seen in a short video and switched off at a stand. The model should be available in the US and other markets by the middle of the year, Samsung’s smartphone boss TM Roh told the financial service Bloomberg. According to information from circles close to the company, the S25 Edge will also appear in Germany in the second quarter.
Apple is also expected to release a thinner iPhone version. According to media reports, it could be called iPhone Air. Analyst Francisco Jeronimo from tech market researcher IDC sees Samsung’s advance announcement as a clever step. It brings the company attention in view of the speculation about Apple’s plans. But Samsung held back on the details so as not to distract the focus from the new models of the S25 series that are already available for pre-order.
