The monthly analysis carried out by the consulting firm Scentia reveals that the Consumption hit its lowest point in June 2024. From then on, a drop in prices and values was recorded, which allowed a gradual recovery month by month until December.


Regarding the consumer basket by type of point of sale, supermarkets were the most affectedwith an annual decrease of 14%, compared to the 13.4% registered by self-service stores nationwide. In the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA), supermarkets also suffered greater losses compared to self-service stores. However, in the interior of the country, the trend was reversed: Supermarkets showed a smaller drop (-15.4%) than self-service stores (-17.6%), although both maintained negative figures.

Consumption: which are the most affected items
The analysis by items, comparing the accumulated of 2023 with that of 2024 (YTD), reveals that the categories of “Alcoholic beverages” and “non-alcoholic beverages” were the most affected by the recessionregistering drops of 19.6% and 18.3%, respectively.
Likewise, the category of “impulsive products”, which includes the so-called “ant expenses”, suffered a reduction of 18.6%, while the Hygiene and Cosmetics and Home Cleaning sectors showed decreases of 17% and 13.9% , respectively.
