Strong improvement in consumer expectations in January

The consumer confidence registered in January a 33% growth in relation to the same period in 2024, due to an increase in willingness of the public to buy durable goods and an improvement in macro expectations.

This is indicated by the latest survey carried out by the Finance Research Center (CIF) from the business school Torcuato Di Tella University.

“The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) increased by 2.9% compared to the December 2024 measurementmaintaining the upward trend after the increase of 2.3% registered last month”, the report says.

The work states that the results “reflect a optimistic outlook, since the CCI in the last 12 months has suffered only two falls (June 2024 and September 2024).”

“Currently, the CCI stands at 47.38, and it is eThe highest value recorded in the last 12 months. From the floor reached in January 2024 the CCI accumulates an increase of 33.11%”indicates the study.

Among the factors that acted are the notable drop in inflation and the improvement in credit conditions to consumption.

Regarding the segment of dwillingness to buy durable goods, the indicator increased 137% compared to January 2024. At that time the index was 14.66 points versus 34.76 this year.

The willingness to buying houses and cars rose 139.5% in the last year while in the case of appliances the increase is 135.5%.

“As to the present conditions, sand registered an increase in optimism to 90% compared to January 2024. In regional terms, the CCI in January shows positive, although heterogeneous, monthly variations,” the report states.

For example, in the City of Buenos Aires the index increased 6.32%, in the Interior, 4.58% and in Greater Buenos Aires, 0.85%.

If the annual cumulative figure is considered, all regions register an increase. CABA presents an interannual variation of 36.95%, the Interior of 35.03% and GBA of 30.68%.
