The new direct center between Berlin and Paris is well received. The trains therefore catch the eye of an expansion of the connection. There should also be improvements for the south of Germany.
The direct ICE between Paris and Berlin, which started shortly before Christmas, meets the travelers on high demand. If the trend continues, both railways want to check the connection of the connection, and there should also be more direct connections between Paris and Munich, the Deutsche Bahn and the French railway SNCF announced.
The new transfer-free ICE connection between Berlin and Paris is very well received, said DB long-distance board member Michael Peterson of the German Press Agency. “We have an above -average high advance bookings for the first quarter and the utilization of the trains is very high on average – 90 percent are not uncommon.” Almost three quarters of all travelers have traveled on the entire route, i.e. between Berlin and Strasbourg or Paris.
Train also in demand on longer distances
“We start with a daily return trip,” said SNCF spokeswoman Charlotte Caillaux about the new direct train to the federal capital. “If demand develops positively, DB and SNCF will jointly analyze the possibility of expanding the offer.”
“The booming international long -distance transport proves: People also want to be traveling across borders with the climate -friendly railway – and accept longer travel times, as the success of Berlin -Paris or Frankfurt – Marseille shows,” said Peterson.
More direct trains between Munich and Paris
An expansion of direct connections is also planned between Paris and Munich with the commissioning of the new train station in Stuttgart from the end of 2026, the DB said. Since the timetables have not yet been lashed, the planned improvements are not yet official.
As SNCF long-distance transport director Alain Krakovitch said of the French newspaper “Les échos”, from December 2026, five direct connections between Paris and Munich are to commute. Both German ICE and French TGV trains should be used. So far, a TGV has only commutes directly between Paris and the Bavarian capital without a switch to Stuttgart.
