The Icelandic singer Björk He reflected on the world of streaming and has said that he believes that Spotify is “Probably the worst that has happened to musicians”.
The comments were made during a recent interview with the Swedish media Dagens Nyheter, where he was promoting the next live broadcast of his new concert film Cornucopiathat will debut at Apple TV+ today January 24.
However, later in the discussion, the artist remembered her approach when making new music and shared how fortunately she was never pressured to develop a tour only to generate income.
When talking about his approach to develop new materials, he said: “Only in the dark a new seed can be planted. For the seed to grow and become a healthy and vigorous plant, privacy is needed. Some years are needed in which no one knows what you are doing, not even yourself. ”
Björk talked about live music and streaming
As for the hopes of making some tour dates, he said that he is now focused on creating new music. “Right now I’m busier by taking out all the ideas I have inside me. I feel that I am far from finishing and time ends. What would happen if I had to do 20 more albums? Given my rhythm, I will probably do five maximum before dying”, He explained.
“The live part is, and it will always be, an important part of what I do. But I’m lucky because I don’t have to raise money for tours, something that younger musicians are usually forced to do, ”he added. “In that sense, Spotify is probably the worst that has happened to musicians. Streaming culture has changed a whole society and a whole generation of artists”
It is not the first time that Björk shares his opinions on the streaming platform. In 2015, he also talked about his decision not to release his album “Vulnicura” In Spotify for “respect” principles.
“It seems crazy,” he said at that time. “Work in something for two or three years and then say: ‘Ah, here is, free.’ It’s not about money, it’s about respect. Respect for the trade and for the amount of work that one puts in it ”.
