According to CAME data, domestic tourism indicators not only exceed those of the 2020/21 season, affected by the coronavirus, but also that of 2019/20, prior to the appearance of mobility restrictions due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

Economic conditions motivated the change in trend in the choice of destination: “The high exchange rate, the health procedures to enter other countries, added to the uncertainty about the future trend of covid-19, favored national destinations, which were prioritized over Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Miami, destinations that compete with the Argentines in the sectors of the population with medium and high incomes”was highlighted.

For his part, Alfredo González, who chairs the entity, declared that “the record of covid-19 infections by the Ómicron variant, which generated a new wave of cases throughout the country, motivated tourists to choose to travel to places closer , but opting for longer stays in relation to historical behavior”.

In any case, CAME assured that “The Covid had practically no effect on the cancellation of trips, but there were frequent cases of tourists who had to spend a few days in shelter because they had the virus.
