The bicycle industry is still grappling with the effects of the corona pandemic. There are sometimes major delays in delivery, according to the Association of German Two-Wheeler Trade.
In the bicycle trade, delivery problems are becoming even greater, according to information from the industry. Some bikes could only be delivered months late.
“Some dealers are still waiting for up to 40 percent of the bikes that they ordered last year,” said Hans-Peter Obermark from the Association of German Two-Wheeler Trade (VDZ) of the Funke media group (Saturday). “Unless there are further lockdowns, the industry does not expect the bicycle market to normalize until the end of 2024 if demand continues to rise.”
The Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV) expects the prices for bicycles to rise by 10 to 15 percent. The transport costs have “increased very significantly. Manufacturers will not pass them on completely to end customers, ”said ZIV managing director Burkhard Stork. Corona-related supply chains have been interrupted. “In view of the delivery bottlenecks, this year we will probably achieve the sales and revenues of the previous year.” Large rates of increase are not possible.
Bicycles are still available, “but if you have a clear idea of your new bike, you have to wait a long time.” All types of wheels from racing bikes to mountain bikes to city bikes are affected, it said.
