Airplanes were full than ever in 2024

Was the aircraft occupied to last place on the last flight? The utilization of the machines has never been as high as 2024. The Airline Association Iata says what it was.

Last year, as many flight passengers worldwide were on the road than ever before, and the planes were full: 83.5 percent of the seats on offer were occupied, reports the airlines (IATA).

With the number of passengers, the industry made up for the unprecedented slump through the corona pandemic. Compared to the previous year, 10.4 percent more passengers flew around 3.8 percent more compared to the 2019 pre-pandemy year. The Asia-Pacific region experienced a boom with 26 percent more passengers on international flights. In Europe, the corresponding number rose by 9.7 percent.

One reason for the high capacity utilization of the machines is that the airlines could not quickly expand its capacity due to delivery difficulties and have machined machines, the association reports.

How many individual passengers were on the road is not raised. Rather, the association calculates “person kilometers”: the kilometers flown together by all passengers. This is because 3000 kilometers of people can be covered by one person on a long -haul or more short flights, or by several passengers on shorter routes. In 2024 there were a total of 4.9 billion people flown.

For this year, IATA expects a further increase in passengers of around eight percent. This corresponds to the long -term average increase.
