In the crisis, the pink glasses are trendy

The glasses are more than just a visual aid. The German optics manufacturers are increasingly launching optimistic colors in the economic crisis.

Better through the crisis with the proverbial pink glasses: The German optic industry is increasingly launching glasses in optimistic colors this year, both brightly colored and in pastel tones, including pink, as the Spectaris industry association announced “Opti” before the start of the Munich trade fair. In particular, bright colors and striking “statement glasses” should act like a “counter-draft at our crisis-shaken time”.

Happy colors, less enjoyable business figures

Regardless of the cheerful colors, the effects of the weak economy worldwide also feel the 130 operations of the optics manufacturers with a total of 20,150. The total turnover of the industry rose nominally last year – i.e. without taking inflation into account – by one percent to 4.96 billion euros. The domestic business was therefore just above the zero brand, the exports abroad ran a little better. Although the German optic industry is not very large compared to other branches of industry, some prominent companies are part of it, including Zeiss and Rodenstock.

Short -sighted population lets glasses need grow

For the current year, the industry is somewhat more confident – in line with the choice of colors. The association expects greater demand in both home and abroad, with a increase in sales of around three percent. Regardless of the weak economy, the optics manufacturers assume that glasses and contact lenses will continue to be in demand in the future: myopia will therefore still increase across all age groups.
