The number of battery stores increases vigorously

The electricity production of wind turbines and solar systems is dependent on the weather and therefore not even. Battery storage can create compensation, the number of which grants rapidly.
Citizens and companies in Germany installed almost 600,000 new battery stores last year. According to new figures from the Federal Association of Solar Industry (BSW), both the number of systems and their capacity increased by almost half. According to the association of the association, a total of 1.8 million battery stores with a capacity of around 19 gigawatt hours of electricity are installed in the Federal Republic.
In terms of total green electricity production in Germany, this is not excessively. According to numbers from the Federal Network Agency, wind, sun and other renewable energies generated 255 terawatt hours of electricity last year – a terawatt hour corresponds to 1,000 gigawatt hours. BSW general manager Carsten Körnig pleaded for a quick expansion of the storage capacities. “Storage is the fastest, cheapest and most effective instrument for integrating solar energy into the electricity market and the power grid,” said Körnig.
The lion’s share of battery storage in Germany is installed by private households, according to the BSW wedding bill, it was around 580,000. In a ratio faster, however, the storage capacity newly installed by companies grew with an increase of 26 percent. According to the Solarwirtschaftsverband, the number of commercial storage installed in Germany rose by more than 60 percent to over 38,000.
The fastest growth was therefore with the large storage, which are batteries with a capacity of over a megawatt hour of electricity. According to the BSW, around 100 new large storage tanks with a capacity of around 0.8 gigawatt hours in 2024, a doubling compared to 2023.
