An explosion in the ammunition camp of a Rheinmetall daughter in Spain left six injuries and also triggered a forest fire. However, the production facilities were not damaged.
An explosion in a ammunition factory of a Rheinmetall daughter in southeastern Spain will not affect production. “Production failures are not to be expected,” said the German armaments group. In the incident in the Rheinmetall Expal ammunition ammunition camp in Javalí Viejo in the Murcia region, six men were injured on Thursday. One of the company concerned was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Rheinmetall said that the search for the cause of the factory accident was in progress. The competent authorities had started the investigation. The company sees “no evidence of an attack”. The explosion also caused a forest fire in the industrial area, which, according to the authorities, was recorded up to 2,000 square meters but was deleted relatively quickly.
At the Javalí Viejo site with 427 employees, Exal ammunitions produces powder for military and civil applications. According to its own statements, the Rheinmetall subsidiary has a state-of-the-art production network with a total of seven operational locations in Spain and the USA and delivers to more than 60 countries. Ukraine is currently a large customer for ammunition from the Rheinmetall Group.
