Trump threatens again with “considerable” tariffs for EU goods

Trump Brussels threatened tariffs in the election campaign. Back on the chief position in the White House, he now adds without becoming specific.

US President Donald Trump has once again promised punitive tariffs for products from the European Union. When asked whether he would introduce tariffs to EU goods, Trump said in the White House: “Absolutely.” The Republican complains: “We are treated so badly. They don’t take our cars, they don’t take our agricultural products, basically they take almost nothing.” There is an enormous trade deficit with the EU. “So we will do something very considerable with the European Union,” he announced – but without giving details.

Trump has long been a thorn that European companies sell significantly more goods in the United States than American companies in the EU. He had already announced far -reaching tariffs in the election campaign. Trump argues that US companies will then produce more in the United States again and that jobs would be created.

There had already been a violent trade dispute between the USA and the EU in Trump’s first term. In 2018, the Republican introduced special tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the EU reacted with special tariffs to US products such as Bourbon Whiskey, Harley-Davidson-Motorcorrads and Jeans.
