The moselle lock of Müden is released for shipping traffic again eight weeks after an accident. Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (independent) drove through the newly built -in lock gate on MS Mainz. “The accident once again showed us that rivers are lifeline – with which our experts definitely demonstrated lifesaver qualities,” said Wissing, according to a message.

Finished earlier than expected
After eight weeks of standstill, ships can now drive the Moselle again. This finished the repair on the lock much faster than expected. Shortly after the accident on December 8th, the experts went out of a blocking until the end of March.
There are several reasons for the fact that it is so far two months earlier. At the lock was initially used in 24-hour operation. 16 employees of the building yard in Trier worked a total of 1,600 hours to finish the two gate wings. Some did without vacation. The Dillinger hut made steel parts.
The accident had been worried for weeks in early December. Around 70 ships were stuck on the Moselle and had to be clipped. From now on, an important transport route for many raw materials and goods fell away. At the Koblenz public prosecutor’s office, an investigation is carried out against a 27-year-old on suspicion of hazardous shipping.
The neighboring Luxembourg reacted with joy and relief to the current release. Yuriko Backes said that the result of an “excellent cooperation” of everyone involved was that the recovery in February and not only in March, Minister of Mobility and Public Works. Everyone had worked “with great commitment to the rapid restoration of these essential infrastructure”.
