Foreign trade association: US tariffs are expensive for Americans
US President Trump wants to hit China, Canada and Mexico hard with new tariffs. The taxes could also be expensive.
U.S. President Donald Trump cuts his own meat with the recently imposed US tariffs, according to the Foreign Trade Association BGA. “Trump’s decision will be expensive for the Americans, tariffs always work on both sides,” says BGA President Dirk Jandura.
Countermeasures by the affected countries would exacerbate a “trade conflict between the nations”, he warned. “The losers are always the end consumers who feel the price increases at the cash register. I would like the tariffs to be averted.”
Possible US tariffs against the EU
Jandura is also concerned about possible tariffs against the EU: “We must not wait until the EU or Germany is also documented with tariffs.” The European Union must again become a competitive economic area.
The United States imposed far -reaching tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China on February 1st. The three countries immediately announced countermeasures. The EU could be the next: “absolutely”, the president recently said when asked whether he would also raise tariffs on products from the EU.
