The Supreme Court plans to complete the Causa Buwog around ex-finance minister Karl-Heinz Grasser and other defendants such as his groomsmen Walter Meischberger and the lobbyist Peter Hochegger at the end of March or in Holy Week. The negotiation is scheduled for March 20 to 25 or from April 14th to 17th, “The Standard” reported online on Monday.
The defendants have lodged nullity complaints and appeals against the imprisonment imposed in 2020. The ex-finance minister was sentenced to eight years in prison in the Vienna Criminal Court on December 4, 2020 by judge Marion Hohenecker, Maischberger made seven years in prison and Hochegger six years. The 168 days of negotiations continued seven years of investigative work before the main hearing started on December 12, 2017.
Infidelity, forgery of evidence and gift acceptance
The Causa Buwog dealt with the privatization of the federal housing societies during Grasser’s term. One of these companies was Buwog. Grasser was convicted of infidelity, forgery of evidence and illegal gift acceptance, Meischberger for aid and forgery of evidence.
