Verdi strike mail centers of the post office

If you are waiting for an urgent letter, you may have to be patient. Because Verdi stirs the strike drum again and this time is targeting letter centers.
In the tariff conflict at Deutsche Post, the Verdi union puts pressure on employers with warning strikes. Verdi said that the employees in nationwide selected letter centers were called for work in Berlin on Tuesday. It is about letter centers in Heilbronn, Mannheim, Freiburg and Offenburg (Baden-Württemberg) as well as in Cologne, Bonn, Hagen and Siegen (NRW).
In letter centers, the programs are sorted and then forwarded to delivery base points, where postal messenger take the letters with them and then deliver. In the past week, Verdi had already strike other locations from the mail belonging to the logistician DHL last week.
The consequences of the warning strike on Tuesday should only be felt by consumers on Wednesday. Because the delivery base points were already supplied for the day before the start of the strike and the posters waiting there went to work normally. On Wednesday, however, there should be fewer letters in the delivery locations than normally – then some mailboxes should remain empty.
Verdi demands strong wage increase
The union calls for a fee plus of seven percent for the approximately 170,000 tariff employees of the Swiss Post in Germany. They should also get three extra vacation days. If you are a Verdi member, you should even get four additional vacation days. The union justifies its demand with the more expensive everyday life and the increased workload, which requires more free time and thus more recovery.
The mail goes too far, it demands an economically sustainable tariff increase. The company refers to the mailing quantities and the high investment needs in the digital age. The scope for wage increases is “very low”, it was said by the company. The post office announced that the tariff round, which starts on February 12, announced an offer.
“Instead of insisting on the fact that the claims cannot be financed, employers should rather listen carefully,” said trade unionist Thomas Großstück. “The employees know best how to make the work more relieved and therefore more attractive and what fair payment means.”
