In its communication, the Bundeswehr still relies on technology that is getting on in years. That should change – the federal government is awarding billions of orders to the armaments industry.
In the digitization of the Bundeswehr, Germany’s largest armaments group Rheinmetall has landed a large order. The company in Düsseldorf said that one is now responsible for the establishment of a digital communication network. The volume of the ten -year -old framework contract for a management system for communication and the directional radio is several billion euros.
For this purpose, Rheinmetall received a first order of around 1.9 billion euros, which deals with a communication network for a Bundeswehr division – it should be delivered in the period 2026 to 2029.
The technology of the German army is getting old. The Digitization of the Bundeswehr is a mammoth task in which Rheinmetall is involved. In December, the company together with the armaments group KNDS had already been commissioned to equip 10,000 Bundeswehr vehicles with digital radio.
