After scarcity: Guinness production is being boosted

Although the overall beer consumption is declining, Guinness is very popular. At Christmas this even led to bottlenecks.

Because Guinness Bier’s replenishment in British pubs had become scarce at the end of the year, production is to be boosted. This was reported by the PA news agency, citing the British beverage manufacturer Diageo.

Despite declining beer consumption, the demand for Guinness has increased sharply. In the second half of 2024 alone, sales rose by 13 percent. Around Christmas, pubs in Great Britain reported that the Guinness bar had to be rationed. The brewery emptied its emergency reserves to cover the demand.

“We work around the clock to increase our stocks and increase them quickly,” said Diageo managing director Debra Crew, according to the PA report. In addition, the company is investing 200 million euros in a new Guinness factory in Irish Kildare.
