Will heating become priceless? Costs have increased by 47 percent since 2021

The energy supply seems to be secured. But the heating costs have been exploded since 2021. District heating and oil rose the most. The prices will continue to increase in the future.

Politicians like to point out that inflation has decreased. This is not very comforting for consumers, because they also have to cope with the price increases in previous years. The real estate service provider ISTA therefore calculates the increase in heating costs since 2021. By 2023, ISTA uses data from the heating cost statements of around three million apartments. The information from the Federal Statistical Office was used for 2024.

In 2023 there was a slight relief for heating costs compared to 2022, but in the longer perspective, this dent does not make up for the price increases.

Heating costs for 70 sqm apartment

The values are broken down for a 70 square meter model apartment. The values are frightening. If you heat with gas, you have to accept an increase of 36 percent – for the model apartment, the 220 euros. It gets even more expensive with district heating. It is already 42 percent or 330 euros here. The leader is oil, here the costs rose almost half: the increase is 47 percent.

Tips and tricks

Which error tenants should pay attention to with a high additional cost statement

The “mirror” had the data in advance. ISTA boss Hagen Lessing told the magazine: “There are always reports on supposed relaxation on the energy markets.” But that could weigh tenants in false security.

Beat through with delay

The costs for tenants have a special feature: they only arrive at the customer with great delay, since consumption and rates are only billed once a year. The heating cost statement 2024, which is the tenants in 2025, will have an unpleasant surprise for many.

A calming in the coming year is not to be expected. According to the effects of the Ukraine secretary, politics is now striking. The CO₂ price was increased in January, this increase will be included in the 2025 billing. A single -family house with a gas consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours emits around four tons of CO₂ per year. In 2021 the 120 euros in CO₂ tax cost, in 2025 it will be around 263 euros. The load increases by more than twice.

From 2027 there will be no fixed quota for the CO₂ price. Experts expect a significant increase and that would lead to strong price increases in heating. In addition, an increase in gas network fees of up to 56 percent was announced, which could mean further additional costs of up to 445 euros in 2025 for single -family houses. Not only has heating more expensive. From 2021 to 2024, the electricity costs rose from around 31.89 cents to 45.62 cents per kWh, an increase of around 43 percent.
