The UBA launches the bioengineering career, one of the professions of the future

This new career of the Faculty of Engineering offers a complete multidisciplinary training for 5 years and an intermediate title in 3. The registration is already open through the CBC page.

The career of Bioengineering It adds to the offer of the Faculty of Engineering (FIUBA), opening a very broad labor market since the graduate will be able to solve a wide range of problems. The beginning of its academic activities will be this year where the inscription to the CBC continues for it and the rest of the UBA races.

Bioengineering is an interdisciplinary area for the understanding of processes and the resolution of problems in biological, medical and veterinary sciences using principles and methods of basic sciences and engineering. The race will demand five years of course and offer the intermediate title of University Bachelor of the UBA after 3 years.

Sergio Lew, Current Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the FIUBA and one of the promoters of this new alternative in the degree training details: “The Bioengineering career of the UBA will provide society with an indispensable tool for the training of professionals focused on the research , the development and application of technologies that improve the quality of life of the human being ”.

Among other themes addressed by the race, those referred to:

  • Fabric engineering (discipline that combines engineering, biology and medicine to create functional tissues that replace or improve damaged tissues or organs).
  • Cerebro-computer interface that allows you to control devices or applications with the mind when measuring and decoding the electrical activity of the brain “.
  • The analysis of the genome and proteom that, in the future, will have clinical application in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cardiovascular, neurological, oncological and metabolic diseases, among others.
  • Clinical engineering that works in the management of health technology in the clinical-hospital field in that regarding medical instrumentation. Medical imageology and image processing in addition to the digital processing of signals and applications in biomechanics and patient rehabilitation. Emphasis will be placed on the creation of new prostheses materials that offer less rejection possibilities.

In addition, the career was designed according to current problems in different work spaces. For example, at present, there is a law, which is in parliamentary process, which provides that any health institution must hire a bioengineer taking into account that doctors cannot be responsible for the conditions of operation of the equipment.

Taking this into account, students are expected to attend some subjects in hospitals.

Bioengineering graduates will have a solid formation in mathematics and physics that every fiuba engineer has, to which the contents of medicine are added such as, for example, histology, anatomy and biological systems. In addition, UBA graduated engineers are able to adapt to paradigms changes.

The new characteristics of the world population and technological changes require answers and pose challenges for science.
