Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have entered into a contract for the sale of gas to China from the Russian Far East. This was announced on Friday, February 4, by the press service of the Russian company.
“The signing of the document was an important step in further strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and China in the gas sector. After the project reaches full capacity, the volume of deliveries will increase by 10 billion cubic meters. m and in total will reach 48 billion cubic meters. m per year (including deliveries via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline),” the statement said.
According to the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, the signing of the second contract for the supply of Russian gas to China testifies to the highest level of mutual trust and partnership between the countries.
“Our Chinese partners from CNPC have already managed to make sure that Gazprom is a reliable gas supplier,” Miller said.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, said that Russian oil companies had prepared a gas contract for the supply of 10 billion cubic meters. m of fuel to China per year.
Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov said on January 25 that negotiations on a new project to supply China with Russian gas from the Far East and Sakhalin had reached a degree of readiness. Most of the content of the final documents has been agreed upon, Denisov said.
The diplomat said that this route would allow diversifying fuel supplies, since at the moment hydrocarbons are delivered only through the territory of Mongolia.
Earlier, on January 8, Rachel Millard, a columnist for the British edition of The Telegraph, noted that the upcoming deal between Russia and China on the construction of a new gas pipeline “Power of Siberia – 2” caused great concern in Europe.
