Medium -sized companies are causing the economic weakness. The head of the IT service provider DATEV sees warning signals, especially with processing companies and small companies. But there are also bright spots.
According to the Nuremberg IT service provider DATEV, the economic flaut is increasingly capturing the German middle class. “The economic crisis in particular meets the manufacturing trade,” said Robert Mayr, CEO of DATEV, which evaluates millions of sales tax data, wage and salary statements per month for his medium-sized index. “In the processing industry, sales have fallen significantly at the beginning of the year. The sales there have been decreasing there for three years.”
The crisis particularly contains small companies. While the overall employment is stable, personnel cuts started with a maximum of ten employees, Mayr told the German Press Agency. “Small companies, which are often strongly connected to the region and some of them for generations, keep as long as possible.
VAT of around one million companies as well as wage and salary statements from more than eight million employees flow into the medium-sized company index of DATEV. This enables a detailed view of small and medium -sized companies. As a cooperative IT service provider, DATEV specializes in tax consultants and auditors.
“The smaller, the more difficult the situation”
The entire middle class suffers from bureaucracy and rising costs, said Mayr. At the same time, wages in the struggle for specialists have risen sharply in recent years.
Small companies could, however, shoulder bureaucracy loads of heavy shoulders and often defend themselves more worse against competition. “The smaller, the more difficult the situation,” said Mayr. “A local retailer who has just experienced a maues Christmas business cannot keep up with online trading and a local baker cannot compete with the prices in supermarkets.” A carpenter or baker cannot relocate its location either, “it is bound regionally and simply gives up”.
Nevertheless, the DATEV SME index shows individual positive developments. The gastronomy and the construction industry have largely stabilized at a low level. “In contrast, sales and employment in state -related areas have recently grown above average.”
With a view to the Bundestag election, Mayr sees several places for relief for medium -sized companies. “Many companies want faster processes and more digitization in public administration.”
