The Government puts under review an anti -dumping measure on aluminum imports from China

The review of the anti -dumping measure on aluminum imports from China reflects Argentina’s challenge to balance the protection of its local industry with commercial opening.

The Government of Javier Milei initiated an expiration review and “for change of circumstances” of the measure Antidumping imposed in 2020 on the imports of aluminum leaves from China. The announcement was formalized via official bulletin this Friday, February 21.

The decision -Exposed in the Resolution 162/2025– It was taken after a request submitted by the company Aluar Aluminum Argentino Saicmain local producer, which warned about possible iAdverse mpactos for the national industry in case the commercial restriction is lifted.

The official text recalls that, in 2020, the Resolution No. 88/2020 established an anti -dumping right of 28% on these imports, considering that unfair competition affected local production.

However, the current review determined that, although there are currently no margins of dumping in Chinese exports to Argentina“17.17% margins have been detected in exports to Chile.” This finding raised concerns about a possible resumption of dumping practices in the Argentine market if the measure is eliminated.

The background of the measure

The analysis carried out by the National Foreign Trade (CNCE) Commission revealed that the participation of Chinese imports in the Argentine market has decreased significantly since the implementation of anti -dumping lawwhile the local industry has managed to recover land. Despite these advances, The CNCE warned that the elimination of the measure could expose the national industry to risks of economic damage.

In this context, the CNCE recommended to formally open the review of the measure, although it suggested to suspend the anti -dumping right for the evaluation process. The final decision will depend on the evolution of the market and the existence of dumping practices that may affect national production is confirmed.

This procedure is part of a global trend where governments seek to balance the protection of local industry with the need to promote a competitive and distorting international trade. The result of this review will be key to defining the future of Argentine commercial policy regarding aluminum and other strategic sectors of the economy.
