With a warning strike, the Verdi union wants to dispute more money for collective workers. At airports in North Rhine-Westphalia, travelers have to prepare for failures.
In the collective bargaining dispute of the public service of the federal government and the municipalities, the Verdi union called up employees at several airports to the warning strike. An overview of what you have to prepare for:
Which airports are affected?
There is a strike at several airports in North Rhine-Westphalia. It starts on Sunday evening Cologne/Bonn Airport, where the Verdi union has called for employees in the loading and unloading of the aircraft, on the check-in switches or the aircraft briefing. At Düsseldorf Airport, the all -day warning strike is scheduled to begin early Monday morning.
Who takes part in the warning strike?
The union has called for work on both airports in the loading and unloading of the aircraft, on the check-in switches or the aircraft briefing. The security controls at both airports are not affected by the strike call call.
What must travelers prepare for?
Delays or flight cancellations are expected at all airports. “We assume that there will be flight cancellations and delays,” said a spokeswoman for Cologne/Bonn Airport. “Significant impairments” of flight operations can be expected. Which flights are affected is still unclear.
“Passengers who have booked a flight on Sunday evening or Monday, please inform themselves about their flight status before arriving at their airline or the tour operator,” said the airport’s homepage. The spokeswoman said that there could still be delays after the end of the warning strike on Monday evening.
Why is strike?
The background is the current tariff dispute of the public service of the federal government and municipalities. It is about income and working hours of more than 2.5 million employees. These work not only in the administration, but also in daycare centers, at schools and universities, in local transport, waste companies or at airports. Firefighters and federal police officers are also included.
Among other things, the unions want to enforce a wage increase of eight percent, but at least 350 euros per month. They also demand three additional days off.
Before the third round of negotiations on March 14 in Potsdam, the union with the warning strikes wants to increase the pressure on employers. In addition to the strikes at the airports, Verdi plans other warning strikes in numerous cities in North Rhine-Westphalia in the coming week, especially in the municipal administrations.
