In comparison: In the past season, the Austrian ski industry’s sales fell by a third, in winter 2020/21 292,400 pairs of skis were sold.
Sales losses of 95 percent in retail and the total failure in tourism left full stocks, which subsequently led to fewer new orders.
“With a share of eleven percent, Austria remains the second largest sales market in the world in uncertain times. Tourism is needed to maintain the image as a ski nation,” said VSSÖ President Gernot Kellermayr.
The VSSÖ is optimistic about cross-country skiing and ski touring. In 2020/21, 27,711 pairs of cross-country skis and 77,000 pairs of touring skis were sold in Austria. According to the survey, there is potential here to increase sales figures in the coming years.
