The prospects for the German labor market have further clouded. The early indicator of the Institute for Labor Market and Vocational Research (IAB) decreased the sixth month in a row and was 98.3 points in February. “Unemployment will continue to rise, employment only stagnate,” said IAB expert Enzo Weber for this development. “The employment agencies look at 2025 with concern.”
The IAB labor market barometer is based on a monthly survey among all local employment agencies. It consists of components employment and unemployment. The component to predict unemployment recently fell to a value of 96.7 points. After previously, it only achieved a value below 97 points during the Corona pandemic in 2020 and during the World Finance Crisis 2008/2009.
The employment component also decreased by 0.4 points in February and was first outside the neutral brand of 100 points with 99.9 points outside the Corona pandemic.
