Verdi warning strike – every fourth package remains for the time being

In the struggle for better payment, employees of the logistics DHL have put down their work. The consequences of this can be felt by those who wait for a package or a letter.

Nationwide warning strikes at Deutsche Post have meant that every fourth package and every tenth letter have been left behind. The residues were “processed promptly”, said a post spokeswoman. The Verdi trade union called for the night shift in parcel and letter centers that lasted until Wednesday morning to the strip, according to company information, around 3,300 employees followed this appeal.

Thereupon was significantly less sorted in the centers than intended and significantly fewer programs were forwarded to the delivery base points. Around 25 percent of the amount of parcel and 10 percent of the mail quantities were affected. So far, the warning strikes in this year’s post-tariff conflict have so far not been affected by the operation of the Bonn logistics.

Clepping of the positions is still large

Verdi calls for seven percent higher fees in a collective agreement that would only be twelve months, which would apply to around 170,000 postmen, package messengers and other logistics employees. Post, which belongs to DHL, offers an increase in a 27 -month contract by 1.8 percent and later by a further 2.0 percent.

Verdi also insists on three extra vacation days to take the increased workload into account. If you are a Verdi member, you should even get four. In turn, the post only offers an extra vacation day for employees who have less than 30 vacation days a year-around two thirds of the workforce.

Negotiations continue on Monday

The three previous negotiating rounds brought no result, the fourth round is planned for Monday. “In our view, the new warning strikes are unnecessary, they are at the expense of our customers,” said the postal spokeswoman. “Our goal is to get a result in constructive conversations at the negotiating table.”

In the past few weeks, Verdi had always called on warning strikes in the different areas, whether in the package or letter area. In some places, this led to significant delays in the delivery of programs.

Verdi evaluates the postal offer as “completely inadequate”, especially since the cost of living of the employees has increased significantly. The post, in turn, insists on an economically sustainable contract – in the face of falling mail and high investment needs, it sees it only a low scope for increases in wages.
