Trump: tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada in early March

After ambiguous statements about a possible postponement, US President Donald Trump made it clear that tariffs should come into force on goods from Mexico and Canada in early March. “Mexico and Canada still flock to our country in very high and unacceptable quantities,” wrote the Republican on his online language tube Truth Social. Therefore, the punitive tariffs previously exposed would come into force on March 4. Additional tariffs of 10 percent should also apply to goods from China.
At the beginning of February, Trump, just a few hours before the penalty duties of 25 percent of 25 percent, was given to goods from Mexico and Canada, especially when it comes to concessions from the border security. For this he pushed the trade restrictions on for at least 30 days. This enabled a North American trade war to avert the global economy for the time being. The new date would have meant another postponement. When asked by a journalist, Trump did not clearly confirm this. Now he reached into the keys at Truth to make it clear that no further postponement has been planned so far. Trump regularly uses customs threats as a negotiation tactic to force concessions.
For mutual tariffs on goods from various countries, he again called the date April 2. It remained unclear whether the tariffs should come into force or be announced for this date. Trump had recently signed an arrangement that tariffs are to be raised everywhere where the United States is currently less demanding than its trading partners. He threatened the European Union with tariffs of 25 percent.
