In punctuality, the railway in 2024 was as bad than in over 20 years. This also increases the compensation payments to passengers.
Deutsche Bahn had to make significantly higher compensation last year for delays and train failures. The railway paid almost 197 million euros to affected travelers, as the state’s own group in Berlin announced. According to this, around 6.9 million applications had been submitted to the service centers. For comparison: According to the train, 5.6 million applications were processed and 132.8 million euros in compensation were paid.
A railway spokesman said the “Bild am Sonntag”: “If the train is delayed and our passengers are entitled to compensation, we pay them without any ifs and buts. And high delays result in high compensation payments.” Accordingly, 80 percent of the 2024 delays went back to the dilapidated and overloaded infrastructure.
More than every third long -distance train of Deutsche Bahn (DB) was unpunctual last year. 37.5 percent of the hold was reached with a delay of more than 5:59 minutes; 62.5 percent of ICE and IC trains were on time, as a company’s spokesman recently announced. The Deutsche Bahn was on the road as unpunctual than in at least 21 years.
At the same time, the speaker pointed out the current renovation program of the railway. The group wants to fundamentally renovate 41 busy corridors by 2030. It started with the section between Frankfurt and Mannheim – the so -called Riedbahn in 2024. The general renovations should also ensure more punctual trains. “By the end of 2027, DB plans to increase the punctuality of the ICE and IC trains to 75 to 80 percent,” said the spokesman.
