The NGG union reports a breakthrough in the collective bargaining in system catering. There is still the agreement that would bring strong wage increases, but subject to reservation.

McDonald’s, Burger King and Co. employees can hope for significantly more money at the next payroll. At an arbitration date between the NGG union and the Federal Association of System Gastronomy (BDS), there was a breakthrough, as both sides confirmed. The negotiated collective agreement is still subject to reservation. If he comes into force, he would bring wage increases from 9.8 to 18.73 percent. The NGG has already agreed that the BDS has been in mind until Thursday, 6 p.m.

Five rounds of negotiations and numerous warning strikes had been preceded since last summer. NGG negotiator Mark Baumeister called the agreement one step in the right direction out of the low-wage area after a month-long hanging area.

In the lowest three tariff groups, all of whom are currently receiving an hourly wage of 13.02 euros, the hourly wages – if the collective agreement really occur – will increase in three steps to 14.30 to 15 euros from October 1, 2026. The first step in the wage increases should apply retrospectively on March 1, 2025.

According to the NGG, the collective agreement affects around 120,000 employees, including McDonald’s, Burger King, Starbucks, pizzahut, autoGrill or North Sea. The BDS did not comment more about the results of the arbitration interview.
