Long -distance trains in February as unpunctual as in the previous year

The train hardly progresses when it comes to punctuality. In February, about as many long -distance trains were late as in the weak of the previous year. An accident burdened statistics last month.

Numerous construction sites and a train accident led numerous delays in the long -distance traffic of Deutsche Bahn last month. Only 66.3 percent of ICE and IC trains finished in February without major delays. That was about as many as in the also weak month of the previous year.

In addition to the extensive construction process, the railway accident in the Rönneburg district of Hamburg on February 11 caused numerous delays throughout the network. An ICE bounced with a truck that was on a level crossing. A 55 -year -old passenger died in the accident.

No improvement even when arriving on a punctual arrival at the travel destination

As a delay, a long train goes into the statistics from a delay of six minutes. Train failures are not taken into account. These in turn flow into the so -called traveling punctuality. It measures what percentage of travelers in the respective period – even when using several trains – arrived on the destination on time, that is, with a delay of a maximum of 14 minutes and 59 seconds. In February, this quota was 71.7 percent and thus also slightly below the level of the previous year (72.1 percent).

The dilapidated infrastructure of the railway is the main reason for the many delays. The federal group wants to gradually renovate this in the coming years. By 2027, operational punctuality should increase again at a level between 75 and 80 percent. The central instrument for this is the so -called general renovation, in which more than 40 busy route corridors are to be extensively modernized in the next few years. This year the Hamburg-Berlin route is on, which will be completely blocked for around nine months from August.
