The eggs are scarce in the United States. Despite all the tensions, the Americans therefore use unusual means and turn to countries that Trump is actually constantly provoking.
After the outbreaks of bird flu, eggs in the United States are scarce and expensive: According to reports, the United States have reported more egg exports in Europe. Appropriate applications have been received by the industry associations in Denmark and Sweden, as Danish and Swedish media report. Because of Trump’s plans to buy or even annexed Greenland, the relationship with Denmark and the United States is currently tense.
Inquiries in several Scandinavian countries
The Danish industry representative Jørgen Nyberg Larsen told the specialist magazine Agriwatch that the United States had asked how much could be delivered, and also in Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden.
The managing director of the Swedish egg supplier Kronägg, Markus Lindström, confirmed in the newspaper Gothenburg post that he was also asked by American authorities-and at the same time dampened hope for American egg consumers: Exports to the USA are unlikely, Lindström told the newspaper. It is not only export determinations that also speak, it is also difficult to transport the Atlantic.
Bird flu has left traces in the USA
Eggs are currently scarce in the United States – and therefore significantly more expensive than usual. The background is the latest outbreak of bird flu. The bird flu H5N1 is currently widespread for wild birds all over the world. In the United States, the virus led to outbreaks in poultry and milk companies. Numerous laying hens were culled to contain the plague.
The Danish Minister of Agriculture Jacob Jensen said reportedly said that the inquiries from the United States were a good example that the United States continued to depend on Europe.
Initially no request in Germany known
It was initially unclear whether the United States is also interested in more eggs from Germany. According to the Federal Association of EI, small quantities of the spot market are already exported to the USA. The volume was very low, according to previous information. Germany is also in abundance: the degree of self -care was 73 percent in 2023.
According to a report by CNN, Turkey, on the other hand, is intended to significantly expand its egg exports to the United States. A confirmation of the US government for the various inquiries about eggs was initially not available.
