With René Benko, the marriage should now stand in front of it
For René Benko, founder of the spectacularly failed Signa holding, it comes even thicker: According to a report, his wife Nathalie Benko is said to have submitted the divorce.
Money away. Real estate away. Woman away? René Benko, former billionaire and head of the Pleit-related Signa holding, is said to have received the divorce papers from his wife, as reported.
The couple is said to have had marriage problems for a long time, now Benko’s wife Nathalie has pulled the ripcord, according to oe23.at. “She doesn’t want to do this and her family to do it anymore and draw a line,” the portal quotes a friend of the family.
René Benko: First custody, now divorce?
René and Nathalie Benko married in 2010 and three children. The founder of the insolvent real estate and trading group Signa was arrested in Innsbruck at the end of January this year. The public prosecutor suspects him to have hiding assets as part of insolvency proceedings. Benko can leave the judiciary in custody for up to two years.

The nested Signa company construct had fallen down due to rising interest rates, high energy and construction costs. Creditors require a total of 2.4 billion euros. Benko and his environment run several investigations in Austria, Germany, Italy and Liechtenstein, among other things because of alleged fraud, infidelity and bankruptcy. His lawyer denies the allegations.
In Germany, Benko became known primarily by taking over the Galeria department store chain. The portfolio included department stores in Germany and Austria, luxury hotels in Venice and on Lake Garda as well as other prestige objects in the best inner city locations. In Hamburg, he last tried to build the spectacular Elbtower.
Does Nathalie Benko get 11,500 euros maintenance?
As OE24.at writes, Nathalie Benko is said to be entitled to EUR 8,500 and the takeover of the rent up to 3000 euros.
However, it is questionable whether René Benko is still able to fulfill earlier financial agreements. After the collapse of his Signa Group, Benko also had to register bankruptcy as a sole trader in spring 2024. In this procedure, he stated that he only had monthly income of 3700 euros – as a consultant for a company from the environment of a family foundation in Benkos. According to this, his previous wife could endure like Benko’s creditors who sit on demands, but are waiting for money.
After everything you know, Nathalie Benko is not one of the beneficiaries of the family foundations that the Signa founder had set up years ago. Parts of private assets have passed into the foundations in Austria and Liechtenstein – including valuable paintings and gold, but also the yacht already sold. Benko’s mother Ingeborg plays a central role in the foundations, and the beneficiaries also include his children. However, wife Nathalie should have property ownership, for example in Ibiza.
