Wolfgang Grupp reveals the truth about the trigema monkey

Wolfgang Grupp and the Trigema monkey-this is a television constant in decades. Now the entrepreneur told a newspaper what the animal was really all about.

The trigema monkeys probably know a lot of people in Germany from television-for decades. As a child, in the 1980s I asked my parents after the spot what Trigema is. “The clothes, shirts and such,” was the answer.

Since then, the advertising has burned my way into my memory. Because it was very distinctive, the then company boss Wolfgang Grupp performed with a monkey. First the monkey spoke a kind of message text and then you saw the Trigema boss going through a production hall and proudly showing it. He explained to the television audience shortly before the “Tagesschau” that his company only produces in Germany.

Trigema boss has only now explained the background to the monkey

Only now, many years later – Wolfgang Grupp is now 82 years old and has now handed over the management of his company to his children – the truth about the monkey comes to light.

With the “Augsburger Allgemeine” family Grupp now chatted about everything in a long interview – corporate management, politics and also the monkeys.

Grupp said that, but the animal advertising figure has now been replaced by a AI generated animation. The advantage has the advantage that trigema is no longer criticized by animal rights activists, the tenor said to the interviews. Dealing with wild animals was a little different a few decades ago than today.

This commitment from Grupp then reads as a unveiling, quite far at the end of the interview: “I never saw the trigema monkey”.

The scenes with him and the animal were filmed independently of each other and then cut together, explains Grupp.

“I was recorded how I ran through the production. The monkey was filmed by a animal owner,” he said in the interview.

For his 70th birthday, he received the appearance of a monkey from his children, he reveals. “However, that was another monkey and not the trigema monkey from advertising.”

The chimpanzee has remained true to Trigema over the decades, you can find out on the company’s website. As a marketing mascot you can see it in many advertising campaigns. So he constantly meets customers and employees – while the real monkey and Wolfgang Grupp in real life have never come into being.
