Labor market
Forecast: Unemployment will increase in 2025

Like the economy, the labor market is weakening. Investments could change that – but not so quickly.

Because of the weak economy, unemployment in Germany will grow according to a forecast this year. The number of unemployed will increase by 140,000 to 2.92 million on average, the Institute for Labor Market and Vocational Research (IAB) in Nuremberg said. At the same time, the number of employed people will decrease by 40,000 people to 46.04 million compared to the previous year.

An economic revival could improve the development on the labor market according to the forecast. “No prompt and thorough recovery of the economy would be foreseeable on their own. The planned fiscal packages can enliven the economy at the end of the year,” emphasized the IAB economist Enzo Weber.

According to the 2025 forecast, the employment subject to social security contributions will only grow weakly. With an increase of 60,000 to 34.99 million people, a new high is reached. However, the latter alone goes back to the fact that part -time employment increases. However, full -time employment will decrease.
