Verdi: College round in Berlin local transport failed

Local transport in Berlin has been largely quiet since January – most recently two days at a time. Now a much longer strike could come to the passengers.

The sixth round in the collective bargaining between Berlin transport companies (BVG) and Verdi has failed. The Verdi trade union now wants to start preparing for a pre -vote on permanent strikes, negotiator Jeremy Arndt said. This will continue from March 26 to April 4th. A longer strike would not come to the Berliners until April. Verdi emphasized that the employer is responsible for further industrial action.

BVG suggests arbitration

The BVG was irritated by the trade union’s procedure and called for arbitration after failure. “In order to avert further damage and new strikes for Berlin, the BVG calls the Verdi union to solve the existing conflict of tariffs as quickly as possible through arbitration,” said the company of the German Press Agency. External intermediaries in the tariff conflict would try to find an agreement. This can start next week, emphasized HR head of HR Zeller-Grothe.

“The BVG also started today to find good, common solutions for our employees and the company,” said the company. “It is not understandable why there is no movement on Verdi.”

Verdi has paralyzed the BVG four times since January

Both sides have been negotiating a new collective agreement for around 16,000 employees since mid -January. Since then, Verdi has largely paralyzed Berlin local transport – most recently on Wednesday and Thursday.

Now significantly longer outstanding could come to passengers and the municipal company. For an indefinite strike, at least 75 percent of the participating members would have to vote in a story. Until such a vote has been completed, a few days or weeks are likely to pass. A longer strike would probably only come to the Berliners in April. Until Verdi initiates the end of the vote, the union could call for further warning strikes.

The crux of the matter is the basic content. Verdi had entered negotiations with a claim of 750 euros more with a term of twelve months. The latest offer from the BVG was gradually 375 euros and 24 months of term.
