Economic unemployment and an impending shortage of skilled workers in the coming years: The “Upper Work” labor market program of the state of Upper Austria should counter these challenges. According to VP Economic Councilor Markus Achleitner, the total volume of funding will increase to 385 million euros this year, almost 18 million euros more than in the previous year.

Among other things, a logistics training center in Wels or a socially economic operation in Vöcklabruck is financed. There, people with impairments or long -term unemployed are to get access to the labor market again. “We deliberately designed our location program in such a way that we can react quickly and flexibly to developments on the labor market and the needs of companies,” said Achleitner.

45 percent of the budget comes from the labor market service (AMS), almost 40 percent from the country. The Ministry of Social Affairs, which is particularly active in the area of inclusion, comes up for the remaining 15 percent. For projects that are aimed exclusively on young people, almost 26.5 million euros are planned from the AMS contribution.

Women in technology

According to AMS boss Iris Schmidt, 129,000 people should benefit from the measures this year. Young people, long -term unemployed and women are the focus: With the “Digital Pioneer” program, women can sniff into technical professions without previous knowledge (between 17 and 27 years). The Linz technology group Kontron has won such a committed employee and will also take part again this year, said Austria boss Stephan Niederhauser. The most important thing is to take women who shy away from technology.
