Do the warnings of a restrictive immigration policy come true? Because cheap workers are missing, Florida wants to soften the laws during youth working hours.
Apparently Florida runs out the cheap workers. The state of the state is currently advising on a law that is supposed to fix the grievance. It provides to loosen the rules for child and youth work so that more teenagers take over the cheap jobs in grocery stores, in the gastronomy or at Disney World.
The new law allows minors aged 16 and and and over to work in night shifts, even on school days. Young people who are taught privately or virtually can even make night shifts from the age of 14. According to the law, young people are currently not allowed to work between 11 p.m. and 6.30 a.m.
The arch -conservative governor of Florida, Ron Desantis, supports the new law. “Why do we say that we have to import foreigners, even illegal if we know that teenagers work in these resorts and college students should be able to do this work,” said Desantis of the “Tampa Bay Times”. “What is wrong to expect from our young people to work part -time now? I mean, it was earlier when I grew up,” he defended the project on a panel discussion.
Criticism of the Democrats in Florida
Criticism comes from the Democrats. “This law will lead to the exploitation of minors and children,” said Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith.
According to the US media, Florida has such problems, among other things, has to do with the fact that Desantis has been implementing a very restrictive immigration policy for years. In 2023, the state decided a law to commit the company with more than 25 employees to check the migration status of its employees. That means to be strictly careful not to make immigrants who have no residence permit. If companies do not meet a review, a fine of a thousand dollars – a day. This law is apparently one of the reasons why there is a strong shortage of labor, especially in the low -wage sector.
Basically, the United States suffers from a massive lack of workers in the low -wage area. Critics fear that the hard course under President Donald Trump will tighten the situation.
