Application via app
Entry to Great Britain only with permission from Wednesday
Passport, cell phone, key, toothbrush – and what else? From Wednesday, most Germans have to think of another important thing to travel to Great Britain, which also costs money.
If you are traveling to Great Britain these days, you should check your email inbox again beforehand. From Wednesday (April 2), German travelers who have no visa need the new electronic entry permit ETA for flights and trips to the United Kingdom, which is linked to the passport. The confirmation for the transmission of the application and for successful processing comes by email.
The ETA can be applied for the fastest via a corresponding app, currently the equivalent of twelve euros must be paid, and almost 20 euros from April 9. Anyone who flies or drives without an application either will not be taken away by the airlines or rejected when they enter the passport control.
On flights of Lufthansa, which Great Britain controls from several German airports every day, the check-in process “with system-side support” was checked, a company spokesman said on the DPA request. “In addition, we have established a document control before boarding.”
Because the airline has been informing the important change in advance for weeks, for example by email and online check-in, “we expect the passengers to be well in the picture,” said Lufthansa. Other providers such as the British airline Easyjet have also communicated the ETA obligation in writing in the past few days. The border authorities have the last word.
Applying with the cell phone
In essence, the ETA is an additional security check, the British government can also expect additional income in the millions. In the “UK ETA” app, a photo of the passport and a photo of the face must be uploaded from the age of nine years. These questions must also be answered:
Do you have a job? Were they ever convicted of criminal law? Have you ever been involved in one of the following acts or were you suspected of having committed one of the following acts? – War crimes, genocide or crimes against humanity, terrorism, including support for or membership in a terrorist association, support for extremist groups or statement extremist views
Confirmation of the entry permit is usually to be reached quickly due to the automated processing, but the British government specifies a processing time of up to three working days. The ETA entitles several trips and stays of up to six months over a period of two years. It is therefore also possible to study short -time (up to six months).
