The stimulus flaut demands tribute. The number of employees drops in almost all industries of the processing trade. But there are also bright spots.
The economic sturdy shrinks the number of jobs in German industry. Almost all major industries in the processing business recorded decreasing numbers of employees last year, as the Federal Statistical Office raised.
At the end of 2024, around 5.5 million people worked in companies with at least 50 employees. According to the Wiesbaden statisticians, these were 68,000 or 1.2 percent less than a year earlier.
Almost consistently falling numbers
There were declines in almost all large industries of the processing trade: the minus was above average in manufacturers of electrical equipment (minus 3.6 percent) and metal products (minus 2.9 percent).
In the plastic industry and in the automotive industry, the number of employees fell by 2.4 percent each. Mechanical engineering as an industry with the highest number of employees in Germany at the end of last year, 948,000, included 1.2 percent less than a year earlier.
But there were also bright spots: in the area of repair and installation of machines and equipment, the number of employees at the end of the year was 2.7 percent at the age of previous year. The food industry also recorded a plus with 1.8 percent.
