In view of the economic downturn in Austria and the global challenges, bureaucracy reduction is becoming increasingly urgent for the industrial association (IV). IV President Georg Knill presented a catalog of measures for de-bureaucratization with 21 suggestions on Wednesday. “It is time to get into it quickly,” said the IV boss in the direction of the new government. The proposed measures could be “implemented quickly” and they “would not cost anything”.
The IV’s catalog of measures The areas of labor law, accounting, reporting obligations, public procurement, school lessons, tax law and packaging law includes, among other things. It is not about the restriction of employee rights, but about “better regulation,” said the IV president to journalists in Vienna.
Estimated bureaucracy costs up to 15 billion euros
Knill referred to the Economica Institute calculations that industry and economy in Austria arise annual bureaucracy costs of 10 to 15 billion euros. According to the Economica Institute of IV Chef economist Christian Helmenstein, companies issue an average of 2.5 percent of their sales proceeds to comply with bureaucratic regulations, for example for tax returns, annual financial statements, reporting obligations and the like. “Our companies do not fight with a lack of innovative strength – but with paper mountains,” criticized the IV boss. This is “economically inefficient and frustrating,” said Knill.
