European Parliamentarian Weber for Deal with USA at eye level

The EU wants to react with countermeasures to US President Trump’s customs package, but the EPP boss is also ready for a deal-under an important condition.
The head of the European Christian Democrats, Manfred Weber, called for the EU to offer US President Donald Trump’s forehead in the trade dispute. “Trump does not let the EU push around,” Weber told the Funke media group newspapers. “The EU is ready for the deal, but at eye level.” The EU’s share in the global economy was 22 percent, the US share of 25 percent.
With a view to Trump’s huge customs package announced on Wednesday, the CSU politician said that the April 2nd was a black day and certainly also an enormous mistake by the US president. “But you will learn from mistakes, also from this.”
Europe has the chance to “become the lighthouse fair trade relationships,” said the party and parliamentary group leader of the European People’s Party (EVP). “But Europe has to deliver now.” Specifically, Weber called for the Mercosur Agreement with South America and to get a trade contract with India on the way: “These new trade agreements are anti-trump agreements.”
At the same time, Weber warned of increased collaboration with China. The People’s Republic dream of another world order. “This is certainly not a future model for us, and China should and should not replace the USA as a leading world trade power.”
